You, as Humanity
You as a human are inseparable from humanity. You represent humanity. You are an instant in the whole of humanity.
What makes you a human being? Is it your body? The fact that you think? Something else?
And as a human being, a representative of humanity, what is the quality of origin in you? What allows you, if at all, to give birth to the new? To create out of a blank page?
More pragmatically: are you a copy-paste machine? Copy-paste, copy-change. Copy other people's thoughts, copy other people's opinions, copy your own ideas and recycle them again and again. When you sit and want to create, is that the only thing you know to do?
If the answer disturbs you, stay with it. The implications over your life and over humanity are immense.
If humanity is just printing itself again and again, then every unresolved conflict, every fundamental issue of living as a human being, is reinforced again and again. When people talk about multi-planetary existence and expanding consciousness to other planets, what does that mean in essence? Copy-pasting the same quality of consciousness to new places. What seems like starting new is actually printing the existing to a new location and reinforcing it there.
Do you see the consequence?
Go back to the question: you are a human being, a representative of humanity. When you look inside and question the origin in you, you are looking at humanity as a whole. Whatever you see is relevant to humanity. Crucial for its real learning and development.
And all of this lands in the context of the post-AI era, where machines can copy-paste and copy-change infinitely better, faster, at bigger scale than any human. In that world, the question of origin, what some call creativity, or originality, or authenticity, becomes something else entirely.
It becomes existential.
Not "We"
It's very easy to say "we."
But it's not we. It's you as humanity.
Can you approach a problem in your life from the ground of the new, so the solution is invented out of thin air, not imported from some garage of solutions?
If you appreciate artistic expression, can you express from true originality, so original that you yourself don't know what comes to be? Or are you hoping to hone the creations of others and copy them like a master painter known for faking, mimicking the work of great creators?
If you want to innovate, can you innovate from true potentiality, a real invention? Or are you at best extending, if not recycling, inventions that have lived forever, just changing names and context?
Do you see where this is going?
No Hiding Place
AI will do all those things; copying, changing, repurposing, renaming, and you will not be able to hide behind it as a fake originator.
Then the question becomes: can you be an originator? In the context of humanity, this is an existential question.
Is humanity an originating force? Is human consciousness an originating force?
Ten years from now, when AI is powerful enough to originate anything human thought can originate, this is the question.
And it needs to be asked by you. By you alone.
No one else will ask this question for you. No one else can tell you the answer.
