First, one needs to see the very direct risk that we face with the acceleration of mechanical thinking. The fact that this acceleration is happening through artificial intelligence, compute, and technology has nothing to do with the risk. The risk is that, as human beings—within human consciousness—the mechanical process of thought is accelerating: more knowledge, more permutations, more ways to create various expressions from that knowledge, experience, and imagination. All of that is one field, and it is being accelerated.
The risk is not to that space of acceleration—what people call intelligence. The risk is to the foundation, the core fountain of human creative intelligence. And before you agree or disagree, take a second to appreciate that you have no idea what human creative intelligence is unless it is the driving force of your life experience, of your daily living. Is it? Is human creative intelligence the single driving force of your daily life? I leave it to you to answer, because no answer from outside will help you in any way.
If you come to see the fact, you understand that the trajectories of thought acceleration and the revealing, the nurturing, the allowing of human creative intelligence are opposite trajectories. That doesn’t mean that if people become dull in their thinking, they automatically become rich in their creative intelligence—obviously. And the paradox here is not a paradox at all if you look into it. It will not be resolved here by explanation.
But if we establish that the risk is real, and that the treasure is, either way, waiting untouched—whether it will be covered more by accelerated mechanical intelligence of thought, or whether it will stay as it is—it is buried deep under that very thinking that covers it: mechanical intelligence.
So we reach the one question worth asking: what is it that can help you reveal the fountain of human creative intelligence? And it is that question—if you ask it on your own, by yourself, without end, with an existential demand to revive the life that has drifted further and further away: the creative life, the aliveness, the freshness, the novelty of the new, the originality, the authenticity. All that is real, and can only be sustained by human creative intelligence.
