Something that is aimed to harm you, or even a force of nature—a super-strong storm that comes and you can be impacted by.
So, you don't know. You have no clue, other than you need to be very alert without any limit of anticipation until the clues signal to you what the direction is, where it comes from, and how to respond.
In this state, the alertness itself is the language. It's the language that connects and communicates the danger with you.
Equally, the state of mind of AIMLESS OPENNESS is not about danger; it's about meeting that which is new. To meet that which is new cannot be an anticipated movement. It cannot be a process from point one to point two. It cannot be a result of effort or prediction. To meet the new requires you to have total alertness without any direction.
AIMLESS is the absence of direction.
OPENNESS represents absolute alertness without any limit, any preference, any choice. Just pure alertness.
So, this long explanation was to find a way to explain two words that need no explanation at all. Because AIMLESS OPENNESS is not the term or the knowledge that is associated with it, such as the description that was just given.
AIMLESS OPENNESS is the capacity of a mind to admit—in a way of very committed curiosity, not casual interest—that the "new" exists beyond the limits of itself.
