Seek understanding. Simple, open and direct understanding. It is the field of clarity. Seek to expand the field of clarity, the actuality of it.
There is a reason, very obvious yet often unseen reason why it is so, that our tendency to seek validation in experience is in contradiction to seeking understanding. Understanding keeps the question open. The inquiry is now alive. Experience leads to conclusion, validation of proof and firm, eventually opinion or any other form of knowledge about something.
But inquiry is into the nature of nothing, openness, void prior to knowledge. And in that experience is the residual, it's what's left from, in best case, realization of nothingness. But that which is left, the experience that you take with you as a memory, lacks the very thing you inquired into, the nothing.
So nothing is left.
Means you know nothing. Before the inquiry, you know nothing. Through the experience, you know nothing. After that, you know nothing. And all this is not in contradiction to the truth.
Nothing is nothing. Emptiness is emptiness. Unknown is unknown. It is irreducible.
You cannot even slightly turn it to known.
So all this is said not as philosophy, not as abstract description of something mystical. It is just said as another way to glorify, to emphasize the beauty of real question. The question itself cannot be touched by knowledge. If it's a real question, it is, let's say if it's a verbal question, because it doesn't have to be questioned, can be silent completely. It can be in any way of mystery presented to your limitation of knowledge.
So the beauty in question is that it is always pure. Even if you feel you found answers, even if you are impressed by the result of the inquiry, the real beauty can never be in the result, can never be in the residual, in what's left from meeting not knowing.
Meeting not knowing is the end of the journey toward anything of value.
And to understand that is the reward, is the flowering.
Seek the understanding, not the experience.
